Be Active In Your Child’s Education

Every parent wants what’s best for their child. When it comes to education, it can be difficult to know the right steps to take or the right questions to ask. But when parents support what students are learning in school and have a positive attitude about education, children are much more likely to succeed.

“We view every parent as a partner,” said Kevin Kovacs, Director of Schools for the Center for Creative Education. “You parents, you’re our partner in this process of educating your children.”

So, how do you become that partner that will help lift your child up? Here are a few tips for playing a more active role in your child’s education.

Demonstrate a Positive Attitude About Learning

Attitude defines experience. If you have a positive attitude about learning and education, children will pick up on that. Showing them how important learning is and how it impacts your daily life will help them understand why school matters. And taking an interest in what they’re doing in the classroom can build their confidence and grow their enthusiasm.

Continue Learning At Home

Children are always learning, so take advantage of every opportunity to teach them something new. For example, practice your young child’s reading skills by having them read street signs as you drive home. Or take time to teach them about the history and traditions of an upcoming holiday that they might be unfamiliar with. You might learn something too!

You can also make sure that your child is continuing to learn at home by connecting with their teachers and working with them on the same material that they’re learning in school. For example, reading with your child every night, even for just fifteen minutes, can have a massive impact on their literacy. You can also incorporate math, science, and social studies into your daily routine.

Engage With Your Child’s Teacher

Staying connected with your child’s school will enable you to continue their education at home and build a positive learning environment. So, don’t be afraid to reach out and find out how your child is doing. Even though teachers are busy, an open line of communication with parents helps them be more effective in their job. And the more that parents and teachers communicate, the better position your child will be in to succeed.

At The Foundations School, we understand the importance of building strong relationships with parents. When parents play an active role in their child’s education, everyone wins.
