Emotional Impressionism
by Jean Howard, Teaching Artist
“In the past several years I have found a way to involve children personally into the big picture of art processes from the history of the piece, to the
culture, the artist’s life story and their impact on society. In its simplified form this is a way for children to relate to fine art and to connect with their emotions and experiences. The children learn about Van Gogh’s life and are able to be photographed as Van Gogh sitting in his room in Arles. They use watercolor pencils, paint, draw and pastels to design their rendition of Van Gogh’s works with great success.”
