Our Students’ Reading Success
With only a few months left in the school year, CCE is happy to report excellent progress in the reading scores of our students at The Foundations School. We started The Foundations School during the COVID-19 pandemic as a response to the literacy crisis plaguing our community. An average taken from three elementary schools closest to CCE’s campus in West Palm Beach shows that only 27% of their third grade students are reading on grade level.
CCE uses our unique approach to teaching and learning to break this trend and give students the individualized instruction that they need to succeed. When we started the school year, only 28% of our students were reading on or above grade level. But in our latest round of testing, that number improved to 65%. That’s an increase of 37%, with another round of testing set to take place before the end of the year.
Additionally, The Foundations School has already exceeded one of our two of our major literacy goals. Our first goal was that 75% of the students reading on or above grade level would improve at least two diagnostic reading levels within the year; 94% of these students have achieved this milestone. Our second goal was that 75% of students reading below grade level would improve at least three diagnostic reading levels within the year; 67% of these students have reached this goal, with one more testing period coming up.
The Foundations School achieves these results through tools like small classes sizes, regular assessments, and one-on-one attention in the classroom. Each class at The Foundations School has no more than 15 students. Students are assessed in reading five times a year, allowing the teacher to know what their student is struggling with at any time.
We’re so proud of everything our students have accomplished so far this year. The skills that our students are developing will help them succeed in their academic career and beyond.
If you’re interested in enrolling your child at The Foundations School, we are hosting a Kindergarten Round-Up on Friday, May 19th at 10:00am. This event is open to students from all grades. If you have questions, please contact Jerry Crank at 561-805-9927 ext. 102 or [email protected].
