Event Recap: The Foundations School Open House
On Saturday, April 30th, teachers and staff from The Foundations School welcomed prospective families to an open house. We showcased what makes The Foundations School different and invited families into our world with a hands-on art activity with the hope that they will join us at our new campus next year.
What Did Families Do?
Families began their visit to our open house by walking through the classrooms and talking to teachers. In their conversations, teachers highlighted The Foundations School’s successful model for teaching and learning, which includes small class size, arts-integrated curriculum, technology integration, and more.
Once families walked through the classrooms, they were able to participate in an art activity with the help of a CCE teaching artist and assistant teacher. They exited through the Sallie and Berton Korman Art Gallery, where they were able to see examples of student artwork on display.
As CCE prepares to move to our new campus at 2400 Metrocentre Boulevard, we are also preparing to expand The Foundations School. In the fall, we will teach 4thgrade for the first time, and in 2023, we will add 5thgrade as well.
What Makes The Foundations School Different?
CCE launched The Foundations School in January 2021 with the goal of implementing our 27 years of experience in arts-integrated education and improving literacy in our area. As we approach the end of our first full academic year, our results speak for themselves. At the start of the year, 27% of our students were reading at or above grade level, which is roughly the average for third grade students in the elementary schools near our campus. But as of February 2022, 64% of students who started the year with us are reading at or above grade level. That’s an increase of 37% in less than a year!
In addition to having great academic growth, our students at The Foundations School have shown tremendous growth in who they are as people. They love coming to The Foundations School, and we love having them here. We can’t wait to expand our CCE family next year with even more students at our new home.
